IAOM Receives Honorable Mention in Association Awards Program
[13/6/2009]

IAOM has been named as a winner of the 2009 Associations Make a Better World Awards program. IAOM received an honorable mention for innovation in the U.S./Developed Nations category for its participation in the Flour Fortification Initiative.

As one of the leading supporters of the Flour Fortification Initiative, IAOM has been a prominent player in FFI’s work from the very beginning. In 2003, IAOM’s board of directors approved a resolution in support of FFI agreeing to

  • coordinate the development of fortification learning tools;
  • work with FFI to build a coordinated worldwide support network for milling education programs;
  • and make training resources on flour fortification available through IAOM.

Flour fortification has taken center stage numerous times at the IAOM Mideast & Africa, and Eurasia Districts’ conferences, and was a featured topic at IAOM’s 2003 conference in North America.

Introduced in 2002, Associations Make a Better World Awards recognize associations that engage in compelling programs and activities that benefit communities abroad in two categories: U.S./Developed Nations and Developing Nations. The Associations Make a Better World Awards recognize outstanding association programs, projects and activities that make a significant contribution to society and economies around the world. The awards are presented annually to recognize associations making an impact outside of the United States.
